What Mrs. Holverson is reading...

Updated: May 7, 2021

I just started reading The Grace Year by Kim Liggett because a few people recommended it. I have been told that since I liked reading The Hunger Games, Divergent, and The Testing, I will really like this book. So far, I like the name of the main character. It made me think of the word tyranny - usually referencing governments that abuse power. To me, tyranny means: cruel and unfair treatment of another by any person of power. I'm predicting Tierney meets tyrannical people, then gains power and acts tyrannical too.

Synopsis:

Tierney, a rebellious 16-year-old, is sent to an isolated island for her grace year. The county believes that when a woman turns 16, she harbors dangerous magic, and thus must be sent away to release her seductive, poisonous magic into the wild before taking her proper place as a wife and child bearer. -Barnes and Noble
